This month's virtual wine destination is the south of France, namely the Rhone Valley region where we are looking at three wines from the Southern Rhone.
The region's long-standing viticultural history started around 600 BC when the first vines were planted in the area, growing over time to become a major wine-producing area during the time of the Roman Empire.
The importance of the South grew massively in the 14th century with the papacy moving to Avignon. That was the time when Chateauneuf-du-Pape(translates to the Pope's new castle), one of the region's most iconic appellations, was born. This tiny appellation influenced the whole region from the time of its foundation up until today.
Most of the Southern Rhone benefits from being close to the Mediterranean, the many sunshine hours, and the strong northerly wind called Mistral. The typically pebbly soil of the region also plays a key part in its great success.
The selection of wines we will be tasting are all from around Avignon, and one of them is from the above mentioned famous appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
Join us for this short but hopefully memorable trip to discover the wine styles made in this beautiful part of the world.

The deadline for ordering is 24th April 2021 so make sure you have purchased your case before then, to guarantee your place at the tasting. This case includes the three wines that we will be tasting throughout the session. Once you have purchased this case, we will send you an email, to the email address associated with the tasting, with instructions on how to register for the tasting.
The tasting will last up to an hour, with opportunities to ask Csaba questions throughout.
