Who are Waterkloof?

Founded by Paul Boutinot in 2004, Waterkloof is a family-owned, organic, biodynamic and WWF Biodiversity Champion farm perched high up on the windswept Schapenberg, overlooking False Bay and The Atlantic Ocean.

Living soils, naturally low yields and a long growing season help provide talented young Cellarmaster Nadia Barnard with naturally balanced grapes that are imbued with a truly defining sense of origin. Those grapes are then transformed into wine with a minimum of intervention. The resulting wines are fine, inimitable and best enjoyed with food.

Biodynamic Farming

Waterkloof is fully biodynamic. Half the estate is left to the native wilderness and in 2008 was awarded Champion Status by the WWF's Biodiversity and Wine Initiative. They have a formal nature conservation plan in place, with a key aim being to restore the indigenous flora and fauna of The Cape.

Their aim to produce wine with a 'truly defining sense of origin' has led them to organic & biological farming, allied with minimal intervention winemaking.

Wine Ranges

Circle of Life

Circle of Life aims to tell the story of Waterkloof and its transformation from a conventionally farmed vineyard with great potential to an organic and biodynamic vineyard following Paul Boutinot's take-over of the property.
The wines in this range are not limited to a single varietal nor a certain space within the vineyard but, instead, encapsulate the varying terroir characteristics and grape varietals found on Waterkloof.

Circumstance

The Circumstance range aims to provide a better understanding of Waterkloof's vineyard blocks and their individual features. These wines express the characteristics of single varietals and vineyard blocks.

Seriously Cool

Seriously Cool puts the spotlight on South Africa's 'work-horse' varietals. These wines aim to highlight the potential of older, and often underrated, vines.

Waterkloof is an excellent example of a 21st-century winery making sustainable great wines with a sense of place. We hope you enjoy their wines as much as we do!
