Cheval Gris de Gris Rosé

Summer favourites 2018

We have to say this is one of our rosé finds for this year's summer season we're particularly pleased with.

As Provencal rosé steadily creeps up in price this delicious number coming from the sandy Camargue just along the coast is out of the same mould as its more prestigious cousins only at a somewhat easier to swallow price (£8.50 mixed 6) which makes it a good choice, for example, when entertaining around the barbecue.

It has good provenance, being made at the estimable Chateau l'Ermitage who, in recent years, have quietly been establishing Costieres de Nimes as an appellation to be reckoned with. Grenache Gris is the main grape and following slow pressing the juice is run-off without any further skin contact giving the wine it's characteristic pale, delicate colour. The small amount of Carignan in the blend adds a subtle fruitiness that rounds off the crisp mineral edge.
