DESCRIPTION
An interesting South Australian red from an idiosyncractic producer.
The lowdown:
Italian varieties are becoming more of a thing in parts of Australia and we think that this is only a good development. Enter a Barbera from the Adelaide Hills made by modern and cutting edge winery Alpha Box & Dice. Here they don't restrain themselves stylistically by region or grape; they just produce good wine from good fruit. This Barbera is bigger and has riper fruit and more mocha notes than a conventional one from northern Italy. The soft, integrated tannins and lively freshness that runs through it to make it a very smooth and rounded wine.
When to drink:
Absolutely great by itself it also partners really well with gamey meat dishes.
Suitable for Vegans
PRODUCER
Alpha Box & Dice

Based in McLaren Vale to the south of Adelaide Alpha Box and Dice make a modern, cutting-edge collection of wines - just look at the labels - from the passionate and slightly bonkers trio of Dylan and Justin Fairweather and winemaker Sam Berketa.
AB&D was founded in 2008 and is somewhat unconventional in its approach; there are no 'regional, varietal or stylistic' boundaries, just great wines from great fruit. The plan is to craft a different wine for every letter of the alphabet - from Apostle (Shiraz-Durif blend) to Zaptung (crown-capped Prosecco). Each wine is unique and has a story and eye-catching label to go with it. A fab collection of wines that is causing quite a buzz in the wine scene.
