DESCRIPTION
A soft, rounded and quaffable Sicilian red that's pretty good value for money.
The lowdown:
This blend of Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese, both classic Sicilian grape varieties, works really well. With fresh red berries and plums on the nose, it's round and smooth on the palate with soft tannins and a lovely spiced cherry character that lingers nicely on the finish.
When to drink:
There's bags of character jumping out of this one. It goes really well by itself or is great with pasta, pizza and will also stand up to barbecues.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
PRODUCER
Borgo Selene

The Borgo Selene label is used for a couple of excellent value Sicilian wines made and blended at the Curatolo Arini winery in Marsala, Sicily by their own Antonino Reina and the highly respected winemaking consultant Alberto Antonini.
The Curatolos have been making wine for well over a century and are most renowned for their Marsalas, Sicily's famous fortified wine, as well as many high quality table wines from their western part of the island. Since around the turn of the century Alberto Antonini has acted as a consultant label and his expertise has helped them to develop the Borgo Selene wines, made from some of Sicily's indigenous workhourse grape varieties, into excellent examples of what can be achieved here.
Both the red and white have a real depth of flavour and character while remaining excellent value for money. From the 2018 vintage the vineyards supplying the fruit to these are now practising organic.
