Château Buisson-Redon, Bordeaux 2022
A plummy, ripe and round Claret from vineyards neighbouring Fronsac on the Right Bank.
Medium-Bodied, Lightly Oaked
The Lowdown
Buisson-Redon is owned by the Fronsac estate of Château Mayne-Vieil and the vineyards lie just outside the appellation which is why it's classified as AOC Bordeaux. The thirty year old vines are 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc and, after fermentation, partially aged in oak which brings the right level of smoothness and elegance. Soft and welcoming, it has a ripe, round and plummy nose with a hint of wood spice and nutmeg. It's quite full bodied and well structured with gentle tannins that lead to velvety finish.
The Occasion
A good value, honest claret which is very versatile and good with farmhouse cheeses, or pork, lamb and beef dishes.
The Producer
It’s nearly 100 years since Louis Sèze acquired the Fronsac estate of Château Mayne-Vieil. Since then, Roger and now Bertrand Sèze have expanded the estate which today includes Château Buisson-Redon - a 15ha enclave of AOC Bordeaux. On this gently sloping vineyard of clay-loam soils, planted mainly with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, yields are naturally limited to boost the intensity of the wines.
