DESCRIPTION
A wonderfully rich red blend from the Languedoc.
The lowdown:
Comprising Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, it's unoaked and has rich and vibrant aromas of plum, blackcurrant and blackberry nicely enhanced by a clean, savoury edge. This leads on to some quite concentrated dark fruit flavours on the palate well balanced by a lively acidity. Altogether it's a mouth-filling and quite complex red and offers great valuer for money from a newly rejuvenated estate.
When to drink:
It's actually a very good and easy drinking wine on its own but also pairs up well thing meats like Roast Lamb.
PRODUCER
Chateau Capion

Château Capion is to be found near the banks of the small Gassac river and counts among its neighbours the famous Domaine de Daumas Gassac. In 2016 it underwent a change of ownership and it hasn't taken long for this, relatively underpeforming estate, to start making stride in the right direction.
The current owner Oleg Chirkunov, a wealthy Russian businessman, is much more than an absentee investor. Having identified the potential of the estate he runs it in quite a hands on manner and under the guidance of consultant Claude Gros they've transformed all aspects of vinegrowing and winemaking at the estate. The vineyard are now being farmed organically and to improve fruit quality yields have reduced, manual harvesting has been re-introduced and meticulous sorting of grapes prior to pressing takes place.
With the financial backing and evident passion now in place Capion seems likely to become a significant palyer in this part of the Languedoc.
