A wonderfully bright and fresh right bank Bordeaux.
The lowdown:
Laplagnotte-Bellevue was bought by Claude de Labarre (former co-owner and manager of the famed Cheval Blanc) in 1990 and now this small estate, only 6 hectares, is run by her son and daughter-in-law. Certified organic, they really do produce some excellent, slightly under-the-radar wines. This 2016 is vibrant with lots of crisp, fresh red fruits matched with lively, bright acidity and youthful tannins. A brilliant reminder that good Bordeaux doesn't have to be overly serious, big, robust and have years of age on it.
When to drink:
This wine is an absolute delight to drink now though has the quality to age for another 10 years.

Chateau Laplagnotte-Bellevue
The husband and wife team of Henry and Claude de Labarre purchased Château Laplagnotte Bellevue in 1990 and set about a comprehensive renovation in the ensuing years. Claude, whose maiden name is Fourcaud-Laussac, was a co-owner of the famous Château Cheval Blanc until it was sold in the 1990s. In 1996 their son Arnaud joined and today, with his wife, manage operations with a high degree of passion in particular for organic cultivation and winemaking which they've pursued over a number of years. And having converted to biodynamic practices they were proud to certified as such by Demeter in 2017.
