Domaine de Roudène is located in the pretty village of Paziols in Cathar country which sits just north of the mountainous ridge that separates the départements of Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales - once the boundary between France and Catalonia.
The estate is run by Jean-Pierre Faixo and he is of the third generation to do so. Originally they had around 7 hectares of vineyards but, over time, this has grown to aprroaching 40 which are divided into small parcels dotted around the locality. Carignan and Grenache are the vines that hold sway here and can be up to 100 years of age. Syrah and Mouvèdre are also to be found. The appellation of Fitou is not as well known as neighbouring Minervois and Corbières, but produce wines in a broadly similar style and, in the right hands, is the equal of any wines from these areas. In particular the wines of Domaine de Roudène are always highly reliable, consistent in quality and always over deliver for their price.
