In a nutshell:
A powerfully aromatic Crusted Port from Fonseca with a delicate sweetness.
Crusted Port is a relatively rarely seen style. They are aged in wooden vats for a few years before being bottled unfiltered and then allowed to age further in bottle. They have a sediment, or crust, which means they'll need decanting before serving. Fonseca is now one of the few producers of Crusted Port. It's wonderfully rich and concentrated with great flavour and texture and has an opulent black fruit nose which is followed through on the palate showing layers of intense berry, plum and cherry fruits supported by firm, but well integrated tannins right through to the finish.
When to drink:
Deliciously velvety, smooth and succulent, great to pair with rich chocolate desserts, or crème brûlée.
