In a nutshell: A vibrant, light and floral Highland Single Malt and a special Games of Thrones bottling.
The lowdown: Bursting with fresh tropical fruits, this special edition Single Malt slowly subsides into a rich, creamy vanilla character. The finish is deeply complex with subtle sweet, maritime notes that interplay with the delicate light floral essence which warms and builds on the palate, revealing the signature sweet Clynelish waxyness lingering on the palate.
Released as a collaboration between Diageo and US TV network HBO, the producers of the enormously successful 'Game of Thrones' series. Various of the houses of Westeros have been paired with a single malt expression from among Diageo's stable of Scotch whisky distilleries.
Located on the east coast of Sutherland near the town of Brora and an hour's drive from Inverness this is one of the more northerly distilleries in the Highland region.
It was established in the 19th century as one of a number of 'Clearance' distilleries. In the wake of the infamous Highland Clearances the local laird, the Duke of Sutherland, created a number of businesses in the town of Brora which were staffed by former farmers who had been evicted from their crofts during the clearances.
Today, under the umbrella of the drinks giant Diageo, Clyneish supplies whiskies for blending into Jonnie Walker labels in addition to distinctive single malts of their own.
