In a nutshell:
An exemplary old-vine, dry-farmed Carignan from the Secano area of the Maule valley in Chile.
VIGNO stands for the Vignadores de Carignan and is an association of Chilean wine producers growing old-vine, dry-farmed Carignan in this part of Chile. This superb example is from one of our favourite producers, The Garage Wine Co, and has been aged for at least two years and comes from vines over 30 years old, as per VIGNO rules. It has a rounded mouthfeel and a subtle minerality and earthiness coupled with a real backbone of balanced acidity. There is a richness to the wild fruit flavours complimented by savoury, rustic touches, and finished with a long length.
When to drink:
This has got the body and complexity to go well with things like feathered game and vension in rich creamy sauces.
