Description
In a nutshell:
Crisp, fresh and well structured Blanc de Blancs Champagne.
The lowdown:
This stellar cuvee has raked in quite a few awards over the years. Its showcasing a classy pale golden shade when poured it into the glass. On the nose expect a bouquet of flowers, white fruits, apricots, plum, and just a subtle touch of lemon, citrus fruits, quince jelly, and honey. On the palate, white flowers mingle with a hint of toastiness.
The Producer:
Gosset is the oldest wine house in Champagne, it was founded in Ay in 1584 by Pierre Gosset an alderman and winegrower who made mostly red wines. In the 18th century Gosset joined their neighbours and began to make sparkling wines. The grapes come mainly from premier and grand cru vineyards surrounding Epernay covering around 120ha, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the house's focus. Since 1993 Gosset has been owned by the Renaud Cointreau family, winemaker Odilon de Varine has worked at Gosset since 2006 and is the custodian of the House's characteristic style.
When to drink:
A natural, if somewhat decadent, aperitif it also matches well with seafood, particularly oysters.
