Description
In a nutshell:
Fresh, ripe and very elegant white Burgundy from the Côte de Beaune village of Ladoix.
The lowdown:
The northern Côte de Beaune appellation of Ladoix is probably one of the lesser known in the region, sitting between its two famous neighbours Aloxe-Corton to the south and Nuits-Saint-Georges to the north, but has produced excellent wines for centuries. While most of the production is red some lovely whites are also made, including this Ladoix from the single vineyard of Clou D'Orge sitting on stony, southerly facing slopes. From the excellent 2019 vintage the grapes were hand harvested before undergoing fermentation and maturation in oak barrels, ageing for 15 months. The result is a very fine wine, a clean and linear style of white Burgundy with great elegance. Aromas of ripe citrus and orange zest, stone fruits of peach and apricot, and touches of woody spice. The palate is fresh and balanced with great minerality running through the wine, fleshy stone fruit and oaky notes, and finished with a long length.
When to drink:
Try with crab or baked fish, chicken in cream based sauces, mushroom dishes, or cheeses such as camembert or gruyere.
