A delicious, full bodied and balanced vintage of one of the most prestigious luxury Champagnes of them all.
The lowdown:
Louis Roederer's flagship cuvée was first created in 1876 for the then Tsar of Russia and has had a cult following ever since. It's a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from their best Grand Cru vineyards in the Montagne de Reims, Marne Valley and Côte des Blancs. It has rich and complex aromas of zesty lemon, hazlenut and vanilla while on the palate it's delicious and concentrated and has a silky mouthcoating texture. The 2013 is their second vintage to be 100% biodynamic and the wine would be vegan were it not for the presence of horses in the vineyard from time to time!
When to drink:
Fully living up to it's vaunted status it's ideal with canapes or with firm white fish such as monk fish.
