Description
In a nutshell:
An excellent Amontillado from Lustau's highly individual Almacenista range.
The lowdown:
Almancenistas are, usually, small, family owned bodegas that mature sherries for larger 'bottlers/shippers' but are now are few and far between. Since the early 1980s Lustau have been making a premium, small production, high quality range of Almacensita matured sherries. This Amontillado comes from a solera of only 38 casks from the cellars of the Castle of San Marcos in El Puerto de Santa Maria and has an average age of aorund 12 years. Rich, intense and complex with aromas of praline, orange zest and smoked wood in the background. Dry with refreshing acidity. Nutty with a delicious salty spiced touch and a long aftertaste.
When to drink:
One of the best Amontillados we have tried in a while, it's great as an aperitif, drunk with tapas, or even with spicy Asian cuisine.
