A succulent and organic red gem from northern Portugal's Dão region.
The lowdown:
The Lourenço family have been making wine in this area for aorund a century and are acknowledged leaders in this region. From the granite plateau of Dao, this Jaen (Tinta Mencia) dominated wine has lots of fresh crunchy fruit, a medium, fresh yet smooth body and a clean fruity aftertaste.
When to drink:
Medium bodied, it's a wonderfully easy drinking wine and if given about half an hour in the fridge before serving it'll be at its absolute best.

The owners of this organically farmed estate in the foothils of the Parque Natural de Serra da Estrela, the Lourenço family, are often thought of as one of the leading winemakers in northern Portugal's Dão region. They also own the neraby estates of Quinta dos Roques and Quinta do Correiro.
From their beginnings in the early 20th century is wasn't until the 1980s that they started prodcing high quality wines on a large scale. They purchased the Maias estate in 1997 which extends to around 35 hectares in total.
The vineyards are on good quality granitic soils and at altitudes above 1500m the climate is well suited for their purposes.
Luis Loureço, from the current generation of the family, heads up the winemaking team and makes full use of modern equipment and machinery to ensure top quality results.
