A well structured and rounded red from Roussillon made by the Mas Janeil estate of Francois Lurton.
The lowdown:
The vineyards of Mas Janeil in the Agly valley just south of Corbières have been farmed by the well renowned Lurton brothers since the late 1990s. This wine is a classic blend of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah with attractive red fruit, garrigue herbs and black pepper aromas with some subtle smoky and liquorice notes matched with silky tannins on the palate. Part matured for 10 months in oak to soften and mellow, the rest in concrete in order to retain the red fruit and garrigue aromas.
When to drink:
With its warm herby and smokiness it makes a good partner to veal and lamb, especially North African or Middle Eastern recipes.
