A spicy, fruity and great value Nero d'Avola from the warm vineyards of Sicily.
The lowdown:
You do get quite a bit of wine for your money with Southern Italian, and in particular Sicilian, reds of which this is a highly quaffable example. Nero d'Avola is the signature red grape of southern Sicily and this one is full of softly spicy aromas and the unmistakable flavours of respberries, plums, blueberries and prunes all rounded off with a touch of pepper. The integrated tannins give it a good structure and along with the nicely rounded body the fruity character follows through pleasingly to the finish.
When to drink:
With its warmth and ripeness it's great with grilled meats, or mature hard cheeses.

Mezzogiorno translates as midday in Italian, but is also the word commonly used by Italians to refer to the southernmost regions of the peninsula and Sicily.
