A silky, rounded and savoury Barbera from Piedmont in northern Italy.
The grapes for this wine are grown in Chiarlo's six hectare Tenuta la Court vineyard in the Nizza DOCG which was carved out of the existing Barbera d'Asti DOCG in 2014 with the intention of being a step up in quality. It's 100% Barbera from low yielding vines which are all manually harvested and macerated on their skins for 10 to 12 days before fermentation. The wine then spent 12 months in large oak casks and a further 6 months in bottle before release. The result is pretty superior Barbera with aromas of red berries, ripe cherries, raspberries and a touch of tobacco. The palate is quite complex and structured with a really silky texture and pleasing savoury finish.
An altogether quite elegant expression of one of Piedmont's signature grapes; it'll make a good partner to charcuterie, filled pasta and red meat dishes.
