The lowdown:
This comes from 60 year vines from the Les Charmes vineyard south west of the village of Morgon where the local soils lend a fullness to the resulting wines. After a lengthy maceration and gentle pressing the juice ferments with natural yeasts before a few months maturation in oak barrels.
When to drink:
There's a rich earthy and vegetal edge to the aromas that blends well with the mineral core a ripe fruit flavours. Certainly an impressive wine.

Domaine de la Bonne Tonne in Villié-Morgon has been in the Grillet family for seven generations. They own spectacular plots with very old vines in 'Les Charmes, 'Grand Cras' and the most celebrated of Morgon vineyards, 'Côte de Py'.
The current owner, Marcel Grillet started converting to organic farming in 1999 and reached full cerfification in 2006. It meant a reduction in their vineyard area from 13 down to 7 hectares, but they've been more than happy with the results.
Marcel is in the process of slowly handing over the reins to his daughter Anne-Laure and her husband Thomas Agantensi.
