For poise and balance, the Dão's wines make a good counterpoint to the Douro's depth and power. That's especially true here, where you've a wine built around the supple, aromatic Jaen grape. Aromas of plums, mulberries, blackberries and a hint of anise follow on with black cherry and raspberry flavours. A touch of creamy chocolate from a short stint in oak pulls it all together, adding a bit of warmth. Plump, juiciness with a stylish feel.

Versatile on its own and with easygoing dishes like roast chicken, pork or roasted veg.

Gota Wine was started in 2008 by a winemaker and wine buyer who felt there was an opening to bring some lesser-known Portuguese wines to greater attention.
