Rogue Vine is an enterprise led by two friends, Leonardo Erazo, who is also the technical director of top Mendoza winery Altos las Hormigas, and American winemaker Justin Decker. The project hails from Itata, an old and nearly forgotten viticultural valley with ancient bush vines growing on pure granitic soils, 400 km south of Santiago.
To taste any of their products is to discover a completely different side to Chilean wine. Both Leonardo and Justin share a passion for terroir and sustainable growing, acquired over years of travelling the worlds vineyards. In Itata they have discovered old vineyards with dry bush farmed vines of Cinsault, País, Carignan, Malbec, Sémillon, Moscatel and more. They farm them organically and vinify using native yeast and concrete tanks, and the resulting wines express the freshness and minerality of the soil and climate. Their wines are something quite special and have already got quite a following.
