DESCRIPTION
A really well made Sancerre from one of the region's oldest family estates.
The lowdown:
This estate is now run by the fourth and fifth generations of the family represented by Simon and Louis Dezat and their sons Firmin and Arnaud. They're fortunate to have excellent vineyard sites sitting on limestone and flinty soils from where they nurture top quality fruit. For this cuvée they give the wine a long temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel followed by 2 months ageing on fine lees to impart the required flavour charactersitics. This vintage has classic fresh, crisp citrus, white flowers and softer fruit flavours backed up with a delicate minerality and well-balanced clean acidity.
When to drink:
Benchmark Sancerre, it goes brilliantly with goat's cheese or poached fish.
PRODUCER
Domaine Andre Dezat et Fils

Over the last few decades the name André Dezat has become a byword for quality Sancerre. André himself took over the family vineyards in the late '40s to be joined by his sons Louis and Simon in the '70s and, in more recent years, by grandsons Arnoud and Firmin. In total they have around 20 hectares in Sancerre all of which are on excellent sites. This, along with newly modernized facilties at their winery and their keen eye for detail and quality has ensured that their wines continue to hold the reputation that André built for them. While mainly white wines are produced they also make excellent, and less commonly seen, reds and rosés. They also produce wines from the other other upper Loire appellations of Menetou Salon and from Domaine Thibault in Pouilly Fume.
