DESCRIPTION
An intensely fruity and elegant Sancerre from the upper Loire valley.
The lowdown:
The small family owned domaine is run by brothers Julien and Clement Raimbault and located in the hamlet of Maimbray to the north of the village of Sancerre. Their vineyards are mainly on the 'terres blanches' clay-chalk soils which ten to give the wines a ripe fruit character which certainly shows through in the finished product. Vinified and aged on its lees for 10 months in stainless steel it's a classic Sancerre with crisp, crunchy grapefruit and lime citrus flavours and a gently herbaceous element adding complexity. There is a mouthwatering, saline minerality to the long finish. A wine that really shows the true character of its terroir.
When to drink:
Full and round while maintaining a mouth watering freshness it's ideal with fish and shell fish of course and also with white meats, salads and most vegetarian dishes.
PRODUCER
Domaine du Pre Semele

Since inheriting Domaine du Pré Semelé from his father Rémy, Clement Raimbault, in partnership with his brother Julien, is a rising star of Sancerre.
Fastidious, verging on obsessive, he is driven to make the very best Sancerre possible from his family's 20ha estate. The vineyards lie on clay-limestone (mostly Kimmeridgian marls with some Portland limestone) near Maimbray, to the north of the village of Sancerre and are managed manually and fastidiously following the principles of viticulture raisonnée. Although not the largest or most famous Sancerre producer, and possibly because of this, Clement's passion is supported by intricate winemaking skills which means his wines truly define their beautiful 'terroir'.
