DESCRIPTION
Benchmark bone-dry Riesling from the house of Trimbach, one of the great names of Alsace.
The lowdown:
The Trimbach family has a history of winemaking going back over four hundred years and this is one of their iconic wines. From a Grand Cru vineyard this special cuvée is held back in reserve, only later being released just as it is beginning to approach maturity. It offers a rich, complex palate of fresh zesty lime, quince and tangerine, backed up by notes of fresh-cut herbs and tantalising hints of spicy cinnamon, all balanced by an austere backbone of zingy mineral acidity.
When to drink:
Whilst drinking beautifully right now, it should be capable of further ageing until 2030 and beyond.

The family run house of Trimbach was established back in 1626 and has seen the involvement of thirteen generations of the family in the running of the business and their premises are to be found Ribeauvillé, one of centres of Alsatian wine production.
While they are now, undoubtedly, one of the leading producers of the Alsace much of the thanks for this must go to Frédéric Émile Trimbach who, in the nineteenth century, expanded the business becoming an important merchant as well as vine grower. Today the estate extends to over 40 hectares of vines which are found in six villages in the vicinity around Ribeauvillé.
Currently the estate is in the hands of Pierre and Jean Trimbach, from the twelfth generation, while Pierre's daughter, Anne, and Jean's son, Julien, are now taking their place in the business. Pierre, head winemaker, has been involved in around 40 vintages at the estate. They are probably most famous for two of their top wines, Clos Ste-Hune and Cuvée Frédéric Émile.
