Tsingtao Brewery Co
Tsingtao was established at the turn of the 20th century by the Anglo-German Brewery Co. With German directors and brewers initially at the helm you'll not be surprised to hear that the original beer produced was very much a classic pilsner in style. Soon after the brewery passed into Japanese ownership but in the aftermath of World War II switched to Chinese control. Originally all beer at Tsingtao was brewed according to the German Purity Law but this is not the case today as most beers contain a proportion of rice, a staple product of the region. Tsingtao is now China's second largest brewery.
