Tsingtao

Tsingtao was established at the turn of the 20th century by the Anglo-German Brewery. With German directors and brewers initially at the helm you’ll be surprised to hear that the original beer produced was very much a classic pilsner in style. Soon after the brewery passed into Japanese ownership and by virtue of conflict latterly into Chinese control. Originally all beer at Tsingtao were brewed according to the German Purity Law but this is not the case today as most beers from the brewer contain a proportion of rice which is traditional in the region. Tsingtao is now China’s second largest brewery.
