Circumstance Sauvignon Blanc by Waterkloof 2023

Sauvignon Blanc doesn’t often see oak, but when it's done right - like here - it really brings something extra to the party. Fermented in seasoned barrels, it's got a creamy feel that doesn’t overpower the classic citrus and gooseberry flavours. There's a nice hit of stone fruit, a hint of fennel, and a refreshing streak of mineral acidity to keep things lively. A more layered, grown-up style of Sauvignon with satisfying weight and plenty of character.

Great with buttered crayfish tails, grilled hake, or a creamy mussel pot - the citrusy freshness and subtle oak work brilliantly with richer seafood dishes without overpowering the flavours.

Waterkloof is a certified organic and biodynamic estate on the windswept, coastal slopes of the Schapenberg above False Bay, with thriving soils, low yields and long growing seasons providing wonderfully balanced fruit. Cellarmaster Nadia Barnard and her team take a minimal-intervention approach in the cellar, so that the wines are true to the terroir. Behind it all is founder Paul Boutinot, whose wine-making story is closely entwined with the Southern Rhône, where the company he built has been sourcing and crafting blends for decades, and who saw in this South African terrain the chance to bring those Rhône-honed instincts together with a wine farm run in step with his values.
