Description
In a nutshell:
Bollinger's exemplary Rosé is a very sophisticated, elegant example of the style with a touch of richness.
The lowdown:
Beautiful and bronze tones in the glass, a classic showstopping Rose for all occasions. On the nose, hints of red currant, cherry, and wild strawberry along with a spicy touch, not unlike the Special Cuvee. The palate has good structure, length, depth, and vivacity, with tannic finish due to the addition of red wine. A velvety mousse and lingering flavours of wild berries.
The Producer:
The House of Champagne Bollinger was founded in 1829 in the village of Ay, in the heart of the Champagne region. Famous for its use of Pinot Noir, reserve magnums and oak aging techniques. They were the first Champagne House to be awarded a Royal Warrant in 1884, by the Court of England, which it has held ever since. The House's 178ha are planted with 85% Grand and Premier Cru vines, and include two famous plots, the Clos Saint-Jacques and Chaudes Terres. Pinot Noir represents 60% of the Houses vineyards, corresponding to its exact proportion in the Special Cuvee blend.
When to drink:
To get the best from it serve moderately chilled, but not ice cold. It's great with things like Lobster or salmon, or fruit based desserts.
