Description
Speyside Single Malt
Fruity & Rich
ABV 40.0% - 70.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A subtle, delicate and creamy Speyside single malt.
The Lowdown:
Cardhu's 15 year old has the distillery's characteristic delicate nature but with a satisfyingly fruity and rich core with notes of toffee, chocolate and crème brulee. The initial honeyed notes and brown sugar sweetness gives way to a drier and spicer feel as it signs off with a nicely lingering finish.
The Distillery:
One of the oldest Speyside distilleries near Archiestown, their operations (at the time illicit) date as far back as 1811. Through the 19th century Cardhu became a favourite of blenders and in 1893 was sold to one of its longstanding customers John Walker & Sons. Indeed, over time Cardhu became known as the highland base for Johnnie Walker. Under the auspices of its parent company (now Diageo) it first ventured into the modern age of single malts in the 1980's. Today that tradition continues; while Cardhu remains an important constituent of many Johnnie Walker blends the single malt bottlings are becoming increasingly important.
