Description
In a nutshell:
A modern Tuscan style displaying red fruit flavours with rich mouthfeel from Italy.
The lowdown:
The estate this wine comes from was established back in 1967 and covered 500 hectares of sustainably farmed land. The family that runs the vineyards adopt modern agricultural methods on both the vines and the soil, and eco-friendly products are applied conscientiously. The vineyards are located on largely sand, clay and limestone soils, which produce elegant wines. The grape varieties are vinified separately, as they will reach maturity at different times. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at 25 degrees Celsius, followed by 15 to 20 days maceration with frequent aerations, pump overs and punch-downs of the cap. This is done to optimise the polyphenol extraction, which leads to an improved mouthfeel and smoothness. Towards the end of the fermentation, the wines are blended and placed in small wooden casks, where they slowly complete alcoholic and malolactic conversion. An innovative baby Super-Tuscan, this wine combines the power and deep flavours of a young wine, with the elegance and balance from the oak ageing. Full bodied, yet soft on the palate with fruity cherry notes interlaced with coffee, vanilla and spice.
When to drink:
A great wine to pair with any rich meaty dishes, ready to drink now.
