Description
In a nutshell:
A smooth and satisfying Pomerol which is nicely ripe and concentrated.
The lowdown:
Full of dark black fruits and with a hint of chocolate this is a wine with a rich and voluptuous feel to it. On the nose it's got aromas of red cherries and blackcurrants while the palate is brimming with summery red berries and a touch of sweet liquorice. The tannins are velvety smooth and give it all great balance making this a classy and well poised Pomerol.
The Producer:
Château Bonlague sits on the outskirts of Libourne and its vineyards run to just under ten hectares planted with 90% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. It's been owned by the Bourotte family since 1926, it's one of the appellation's consistently good performers and can be relied upon to turn out reliably fleshy, succulent wines.
When to drink:
Made for early drinking this is in its prime right now. A nicely pink roast rack of lamb is a good example of what matches this really well.
