Description
Lebanon
Crisp & Fresh White
Dry - Light-Medium Body - Unoaked
Vegan - ABV 12.5% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A delicate, mineral-driven Assyrtiko from Lebanon's high Bekaa Valley, with floral lift and crisp, refreshing acidity.
The Lowdown:
As far as we can see this has the distinction of being the only Lebanese wine made from Assyrtiko (or Assyrtico). The benchmark examples of this grape are from the Greek island of Santorini and come with a characteristic steely backbone and pronounced salinity. By contrast, this takes a slightly softer approach with a more delicate floral character. The trademark flinty minerality is still there but rounded off with a bit of a riper citrus nature. Lebanon and Assyrtiko is an unusual combination, but we have to say it works pretty well.
The Producer:
Chateau Oumsiyat, founded in 1950 by the Bou Sleiman family, is now in the capable hands of the fourth generation. Sitting in the heart of the Bekaa Valley, the hub of Lebanese wine production, they have 78 hectares of vineyards situated over 1,000 metres above sea level. This altitude, coupled with the unique microclimate and ancient soils, leads to a range of wines with a distinctly Mediterranean character. They've put together a good blend of tradition and terroir, to show off the region's heritage and distinctive character.
When to Drink:
Good with seafood or mezze-style dishes, or simply on its own when the weather calls for something crisp and refreshing.
