Description
In a nutshell:
A delicious crunchy and fruity French red from one of the main estates in this small south western appellation.
The lowdown:
Marcillac is a small and little known appellation of the southern fringes of the Massif Central where the climate can be challenging, but where wine has been made for centuries. Father and son Philippe and Julien Teulier of Domaine du Cros are stalwarts of the area and have been making delightful wine here for decades. This cuvée, Lo Sang del Pais (blood of the soil), is made from Fer Servadou and is bottled in the spring after harvest without any oak ageing. It's got instantly appealing aromas of raspberries, blackcurrant and the taste is of soft ripe red fruits with a touch of spice and clean underlying minerality. The tannins are nicely integrated and it has a bright and vibrant finish.
When to drink:
Bright and vivacious, this is good very slightly chilled and with a plate of charcuterie it's a real treat.
