A South African Chenin Blanc based white blend that's both serious and refreshing.
The lowdown:
Don't be fooled by the cool modern packaging or crown top closure - this isnt a weird, 'out there', wacky wine, but a really good, serious white made with some high quality grapes. Luddite vary the blend a little each year, but it's always led by Chenin Blanc supported by Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc which is grown in the Bot River and surrounding areas. Each component is vinified separately and spent 6 months in barrel before blending. It's ripe and rounded with a pleasing understatedness to it and a lovely silky mouthfeel. And it has a freshness from start to finish - not sharp, just clean - a hallmark of a good wine, and one where it's a little too easy to drink.
When to drink:
Creamy in texture yet crisp and fresh on the palate this is a good partner to things like poultry and creamy pasta and as a stand alone wine to drink by itself.
