Description
In a nutshell:
A Meursault with many layers, citrus and delicate spicy character, from Burgundy, France.
The lowdown:
Meursault lies between the villages of Volnay and Puligny-Montrachet in the region of Burgundy. Vallet Freres keep their vines at low density and use extremely strict pruning practices to maintain low yields. The vineyards are located on mainly limestone soils, with only traditional viticulture methods used for the last 50 years. They are one of a handful of producers in the Cote d'Or who continue to use ultra-traditional winemaking techniques. Grapes only come from vines that are a minimum of 15 years of age, after pressing the juice is decanted then fermented in open wooden casks using natural yeasts and no temperature control. The wine is left on its lees for an extended period and put into French oak barrels to mature. This wine has a fine nose, appealingly fresh with a certain nuttiness as well as some delicate spicy notes. A layered, well-rounded, and elegant palate shows citrus flesh and plush acidity with a satisfying toasty finish. The expert balance between richness and fine minerality alongside a complex savoury character make this a beautifully poised and elegant wine.
When to drink:
Pairs well with game dishes or shellfish, particularly lobster thermidor.
Suitable for Vegans
