In a nutshell: Crisp and sparkling West Country cider from Padstow Brewing.
The lowdown: This unique Normandy-style Cornish cider was developed by wine and cider maker John Coulson of Polgoon Vineyard in collaboration with Caron Archer, Padstow's head brewer. It contains pressed English Dessert and Bramley Apples and is fermented using the finest Champagne yeast. The result is a crisp, mouth-watering cider that leaves a satisfyingly long finish. Good to drink with food, it goes well with things like pork belly and scallops and is perfect with a gammon joint and some crackling.
This cider is suitable for vegans and is gluten free.
Padstow Brewing, under husband and wife team Des & Caron Archer, started up in January 2013 in a converted surf shower, at that time just testing out recipe ideas. The equipment was tiny (just 100 litres or half a brewer's barrel) but still too big for the space; only one person could get in at a time. If you weren't inside, you were out and if it rained you just got wet. Something had to give. So, they moved to a custom built brewery on the outskirts of Padstow. Over the intervening years theyve accumulated many awards and continued to grow steadily while successfully celebrating 10 years of brewing in early 2023.
